Whenever I plan to make bread I always change my mind and end up buying a loaf. But lately it’s been harder for us to find a decent loaf bread in stock due to everyone panic buying. I decided to find a quick bread recipe that doesn’t take a whole day to put together. I am happy to report I have a recipe that makes me do a happy dance! It’s called Beer Bread: For those of you that have never heard of beer bread then you need to listen up! This recipe literally takes five minutes to put together, requires no proofing and bakes in a hour or less. It is also quite versatile in terms of flavor; you can leave it plain and or add savoury or sweet fillings to it. I decided to literally spice things up a bit and add a cinnamon spice mix and raisins to make a delicious Cinnamon Raisin Beer Bread! The end result will leave you with the most comforting and delicious bread - just the thing we all need right now.
Side note: For those of you worried about adding alcohol to your bread, don’t worry. The heat from the oven evaporates the alcohol in it, only leaving the flavor and the yeast. So no, you can’t get drunk off beer bread (sorry to those who wanted to get drunk).
You are going to loaf baking bread now with this recipe…I was going to write more puns about bread but then I thought you guys would find it rather stale.

Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1½ tablespoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ cup light brown sugar
- 12 ounces lager (or beer of your choice)
- 1 cup of raisins
- 1.5 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp ginger
- 1 tsp cardamom
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted and slightly cooled
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 375°. Grease an 8½-by-4½ loaf pan and set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder, salt, brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and raisins.
- Pour in the beer and stir with a wooden spoon until just combined. Transfer the batter to the prepared loaf pan and top with the butter.
- Bake the bread until golden brown and firm, about 50 mins to an hour. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then allow it to cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
